Week 9 Thing 20

I couldn't resist this. Actually, this is in tribute to a wonderful librarian who I worked with when I first started. Kay Smith and I spent many happy dinner hours at good old Roy Rogers. And those of you who know me, know that I am a big Pat Boone fan -oh no, the cat's out of the bag! (Donna, I know you're loving this!)

Week 8 Thing 19

There are so many new tools to explore. What an abundance of riches! Web 2.0 has exploded. I'm glad there was a short list on the award winners -it helped narrow my search. I looked at Craigslist and Upcoming. Both are very useful, especially since they can be searched geographically. It will be interesting to see which of the hundreds of these tools survive for the long term.

Week 8 Thing 18

Oh boy! I almost threw in the towel on this one. Somehow I managed to change the password to get into my blog. I'm sure there's a logical explanation, but it was just about the last straw. But I worked my way out of the quagmire and here I am posting about Zoho and Google Docs.

I had some problems with Zoho. I created a document, well, really I just typed a sentence or two. But I wasn't able to save it. In Google Docs, I was able to save and revise. I can see how useful these online apps could be -especially for revising shared docs. And the ability to work n any computer at any time provides so much flexibilty. Cool!

Week 6 Thing17

Ok, I went to the sandbox(sounds like something Luna and Merlot might say)and added a comment to one of the thingies. But when I tried to add my Blog name,I wasn't successful. I'll try again.

Week 7 Thing 16

Now I understand what a wiki is. Boy, this is a whole new vocabulary we're learning. I can see lots of uses for wikis, thanks to the various ones I looked at. I added the BookLovers Wiki to my del.icio.us account.

Seems like a good tool for meetings -from agenda building to pre/post meeting discussions. What concerns me about wikis is the free range that contributors have. If it's a limited wiki, that's not as much of an issue. But the lack of control makes me question the use of wikis when authority is important.

Week 6 Thing 15

This was the best discovery exercise yet. I really enjoyed reading about Library 2.0. We face such exciting challenges - we need to be willing to take risks. How different the library of tomorrow (today??)will be! Our comfort levels will be rattled. And that's actually a good thing. "Into a New World of Librarianship" should be required reading for all BCPL staff. We need to do more than talk about it-we need to be proactive. This changing world of libraries will leave us in the dust if we don't embrace the changes. Maryland 23 is a big step in moving us forward.

Week 6 Thing 14

Read about Technorati and checked out the site. The Top Blogs were tech-related. I just shook my head when I saw that Britney Spears was listed among the Top Searches. With all that's going on in the world, how can that be what captures so much attention? Unfortunately it's not surprising.

I don't really see how I will use this yet, but time will tell. Like with many of the other things I've been exposed to in this exercise, I will need to revisit this at a later time so I can really get a handle on it.

Week 6 Thing 13

The podcast about del.icio.us was confusing! Thanks to NO's very own Ms Twenty Three, I understand what it's all about. What a neat tool for organizing and making accessible my favorite sites! This is a tool I will definitely use in the future. And we can use it at work to make our staff "Favorites" accessible at all computers.

Check out my favorites but keep in mind I just got started.

Week 5 Thing 12

Here's my search rollyo on sports stuff -from fast cars to slow birds.
